Although Ayurvedic Yoga Massage also has its roots in Ayurveda, its approach is very different from classical Ayurvedic massages, such as the well-known Abhyangam massage, or other Ayurveda massage treatments. The bodywork of AYM is more oriented towards yoga therapy. The treatment combines traditional Indian deep tissue massage with a series of assisted yoga-based stretching. An individual session of Ayurvedic Yoga Massage is given on a mattress, on the floor, with very little oil mixed with a scrubbing powder called Calamus. Together, the result is a deep and relaxing massage that promotes circulation (bringing down toxins), flexibility and improves a general sense of well being.
